Grupo Capoeira Angola Holanda

Learn the fascinating game containing dance, martial arts, music and acrobatics

Capoeira Angola

Capoeira Angola is the dance fight game that enslaved Africans brought to Brazil. Capoeira is music, dance, attack, defense, cunning and playfulness. To the rhythm of musical instruments such as the berimbau two people test each other in the roda, a circle formed by spectators singing. A student first learns the ginga, a danced fighting stance. From the ginga come the attacks with the feet and the head, escapes, and acrobatics.

Grupo de Capoeira Angola Holanda will be happy to introduce you to this rich African-Brazilian cultural expression.

Our group

We are a Capoeira Angola group based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, under the leadership of Ronnie Julianto Bakker and Ilma van de Beek. They learned capoeira from professor Totti Angola, who was a student of Mestre João Grande in New York since 1994, and started teaching in The Netherlands in 2002. After he left to Brazil in 2013, Ilma and Ronnie started GCAH to maintain and promote the art of Capoeira Angola in The Netherlands. Since 2020, GCAH has been affiliated with Grupo de Capoeira Filhos de Angola led by Mestre Laercio.
